Advances in communications technology, materials, theoretical algorithms and numerical techniques have spurred the development of many newer devices and technological aids, both in civilian and military areas, in the past few years. These devices are used in day-to-day life to ensure safety and ease in life. The technologies involved with the manufacturing and operation of devices are termed as device technologies. Material technology involves selecting materials with properties that best meet the requirements of a component as well as maintaining the performance of materials over the operating life of the component by resisting corrosion, fatigue, temperature and other damaging events. With the advancement of material science, materials are expected to perform the role of an intelligent structure or, mechanism. The fast developing information technology industry is driving a need for new materials in order to facilitate the development of more reliable devices


Technological intervention in healthcare sector has already given us tools for prevention, early detection and diagnosis of various ailments. For further improvement the sector, the TIH has proposed following projects: An Integrated Water Contaminant Sensor for IoT Platform, An Ultra-Low Power Wearable ECG Device for Early detection of Cardiovascular diseases, Body Movement-based Energy Harvester for Healthcare Application, Development of non-invasive biosensor for early detection of lung cancer, low cost ICT based healthcare system for early diagnosis, consultation and patient monitoring, Drug Related Information Extraction, Cell-based biosensor for studying cellular behavior, low cost CPS framework based wearable device for gait analysis in children with cerebral palsy, Cyber-Physical Platform for Prototyping Microfluidic Lab-On-Chips, IoT-Edge-Cloud framework for efficient patient monitoring and effective provisioning of healthcare, Regenerative Scaffold for second and third degree burnt wound healing, Fabrication of bio-absorbable mesh for osteo-fixation using indigenous biodegradable biocompatible polymer, Diagnosing and monitoring of Autism Spectrum Disorder in the Indian population with sulfate levels and glutathione status as biomarkers, and advanced multistage diagnostic tool to detect antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in clinical and environmental samples.
Adoption of technologies by the defence forces has become very important in modern warfare in order gain edge rivals. So this TIH proposes following technologies to assist defence forces of our country: Development of compact Multi-chip-set T/R module with Active Electronically Steerable Antenna for Multi-functional RF payload of Tactical UAVs, Development of AI powered multi purpose intelligent security and surveillance system, Design of Flexible Rasorbers for Practical Deployment on Platforms with Antennas for Stealth and Secure Communication, A Cooperative Guidance and Navigation System for Multi-Agent based Surveillance and Transportation in Mountainous Terrains for Border Security Applications, Gallium Nitride Power converter based electric vehicle charger and wireless power transfer module, Metacomposites for Impact & Blast Mitigation, Blast Dosimeter, and FPGA based Frequency Locked Loops.
In this area proposed technologies are: Communication Enabled Multi-function Adaptive Relay (CEMAR), Algorithms for detection, early warning, and deterrence of wildlife species involved in human-wildlife conflict, NPK sensor for on spot soil sensing, fully Integrated NB-IoT transceiver in CMOS Technology for wireless communication, Design and Packaging of Optical Neural Network Chips for manufacturing sector, Ultra-Sensitive THz Detectors and Sensors Based on Quantum Technology, Hybrid Silicon Photonic Switching and Routing Devices for 2┬Ám Optical Communication, Cyber-Physical Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, CPS Based System-on-chip (SoC) for Early detection of Landslides and Software Frameworks for Improved Software Project Management (SPM) Activities using Machine Learning.
City and municipal management is also set to get benefitted from the advances in the ICT field. In view of this, the TIH has presented the following projects: Intelligent Predictive and Prescriptive Systems for Traffic and Pavement Condition Management in a Smart City, Deployment of T-CPS for Intelligent Mobility and Efficient Traffic Control in Smart Cities, Energy, Views, Light and Ventilation through Envelopes, A Novel Privacy-Preserving Participatory Noise-Map System, Smart - CMHA : Smart Civic Maintenance of Housing and Urban Areas, Robotic Solution for Automated Bricklaying in Single and Multi- Storey Houses, Cloud-based Product Development of decision support system for charging facility planning: In the context of Indian urban environment and Sustainable Habitat Resistance: by Industry 4.0 and Smart Technology Intervention.
As a growing economy with a huge population, energy needs of the country is continually burgeoning putting pressure on the natural resources especially energy. In this regard India has already invested a lot in renewable and clean energies but there is still a scope of improvement. This is where TIH at IIT Roorkee has come up with the following proposals: Cyber-Physical Systems for Green Buildings, Smart Grid Management System (SGMS) against Cyber Vulnerabilities, Energy optimization for EV Charging Station through Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, Solar cell assisted Water Electrolysis and Generation of 100 W power in Unitized Regenerative Fuel cell (URFC) as sustainable storage device (UPS), Flexible perovskite quantum dot solar cells, Fabrication of 20% efficient Silicon Microwire Arrays Based Radial Junction Solar Cells, of Time synchronized Multiple Disturbance Detector (TMDD) and Innovative Technologies for Secure Operation of Networked DC microgrid with Penetration Heavy Renewables, Low Cost Solar Assisted Sea Water Desalination Plant, Hack-Free Hydro Plant Control Systems and Power HIL based simulation for analysing grid support and ancillary service capabilities of energy storage technologies in grids with renewable energy and EV penetration.
Proposed technologies in the field of telecommunications are: Hybrid Solutions for limitations of device/circuits in implementing RF/ Optical communication link for cyber physical systems and Solutions for 5G based Device-to-Device (D2D) Communication.
Safe monitoring and operation of atomic (fission) power plant is critical, so that we can take proper advantage of this source of energy. The proposed instruments and apparatus in this regard are development Of High Temperature Heat Flux Meters, medium scale apparatus for investigation and demonstration of the effective depressurization and decontamination of a medium scale PHWR primary containment under LOCA conditions.
