Technology Innovation Hub

Sensors, Networking, Actuators and Control Systems (SNACS) powered Internet of Things and Everything (IOT & IOE), are significant components of a Cyber Physical Systems (CPS). SNACS can be viewed as the basic building block of IOT/IOE, which as defined by the International Telecommunication Union is a global infrastructure for the information society, enabling advanced services by interconnecting (physical and virtual) things based on existing and evolving interoperable information and communication technologies (ICT). Through the exploitation of identification, data capture, processing and communication capabilities, the IoT/IoE offers applications whilst ensuring security and privacy requirements.

The proposal has listed 10 product frameworks spread across multiple disciplines of engineering as listed below:
1 NDT 4.0 – Industrial IoT solutions
2 Next-gen high impact medical device technologies with IoT Capabilities
3 Next-gen Indigenous Secure intelligent and Reliable Compute Ecosystem
4 Opensource scalable data analytics platform for IoT applications
5 Next-gen Indigenous Secure, High Bandwidth and resilient wireless communication networks for IoT deployments
6 Inferential Lensless cameras
7 Collaborative Telerobotics
8 Distributed Acoustic Sensing Systems (DAS)
9 Model industry 4.0 Factory (Soft-and Hard-ware) for Smart Manufacturing
10 Water, Gas and Energy Distribution Networks for Smart City
The proposal also presents 38 product ideas based on the above frameworks. These ideas are derived not only based on the research challenges but also from a product perspective including target beneficiaries, unique selling point, patents that could be filed, Market revenue and Industry participation. A very detailed plan is worked out keeping in mind the following points of importance, namely,

4 Human Resource Development
5 Productization and Commercialization
From the project management perspective, every project will have an industry association right from its inception. A very strict monitoring of progress of the projects will be put in place to ensure smooth and effective progress. The Hub will leverage the IITM Technology Incubation Centre facility to incubate new startups. The proposal requests for a funding of 170 crores over next 5 years and IITM shall share equipment worth 50 crores and its supercomputing facility for use in executing projects by IITM Pravartak.
